Blithely accepting a gig in 1994 even though he had no band, Saxhound, Bob Reed (with the beard), placed an ad in the Chicago Tribune for players for a group originally called Mid-Life Crisis.
The Houndz ended up with a drummer with perfect pitch, a classically trained clarinetist and a banjo making bass player.
After their 6'9" tryout trombone player (against the wall on the right) toppled over a gazebo half rail and fell head first into the azaleas below during a 1999 gig for the Roselle Park District, the then five piece Houndz, deemed such heroics in the field worthy and added the trombonist and a trumpet player to make a full horn section.

Being children of the sixties, the Houndz specialize in covering the great music from that era. They cover artists like Aretha Franklin, The Blues Brothers, Van Morrison, Wilson Pickett and CCR. In addition, they love music from Chicago based groups and also do tunes from Chicago, The Ides of March and the Buckingham's. Beginning in 1998, The Houndz began to write and record music with a sixties sound aimed at what their current age group might be going through.
This resulted in four cd's:
1. 2nd Adulthood
2. Work Songs
3. These Guys (The 2005 Chicago White Sox)
4. Afterlife Crisis Soundtrack (included with the book of the same name)
